This is the stock Latest News module but with the headlines set to display in Ascending order rather than Descending order. 

Thus you may display Oldest News first until it expires--hence an Oldest News Module for Joomla 1.0.x .

I found this useful for a super simple displaying upcoming events that had a multitude of information associated with them...I've used Upcoming Events Mods before, but I wanted a simple stripped down version that fit seamlessly with no need for additional css style configuration to fit my template.  I searched all over the internet and the forums and was so surprised that this wasn't already available.  Granted once I looked at the Latest News Mod code myself, I realized what a super simple change it was, but for someone not at all comfortable with going into the code, I thought I would package it up and submit it for your use!  Enjoy!!
